About the Department

The Department of Sociology at Dr. Nobin Bordoloi College has been shaping students since 1986, offering BA Major, Minor & GEC — FYUGP under Dibrugarh University. The department is currently led by Dr. Himanta Pratim Borgohain.

A separate building including a Teachers' Common Room and two classrooms.

  • To make both teacher and student communities self-competent, with integrity, through institutionalised education.
  • To organise varied workshops and skill development programmes for holistic student development.

Engagement

Departmental Activities

  • Regularly organises seminars, group discussions and workshops to enhance students' knowledge.
  • Carries out a field study every year to create awareness of and interest in research.
  • Executes plantation, gardening and Swachh Abhiyan drives.
  • Celebrates special days such as Shilpi Divas, the Tithi of Sankardeva and the birthday of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
  • Celebrates Teachers' Day and observes Saraswati Puja.
  • Organises Career Counselling Programmes inside and outside the college.
  • Organises competitions such as quiz and extempore speech to build student skills.
  • Publishes a wall magazine, “Ramdhenu,” and a bilingual magazine, “Insight,” annually.
  • Facilitates economic support to needy students to continue their education.

Achievements

  • Sri Debajit Hazarika was a first-class holder for the first time from the department, in 2014.
  • Sri Uttam Bora, Sri Priyanku Boruah and Miss Riki Boruah rank among the department's brilliant students.
  • Sri Raj Handique (Taekwondo) secured gold medals in 2018 and 2019.
  • The Department clinched the Best Department Award in the College Week, 2025.
  • Organised a three-day National Workshop on Research Methodology sponsored by ICSSR, with the Research and Development Cell of the college, in 2025.
