About the Department

The Department of English at Dr. Nobin Bordoloi College has been shaping students since 1986, offering BA (Major) — Major/Minor NEP under Dibrugarh University. The department is currently led by Mr. Biswajit Neog, MA (Double), M.Phil.

Departmental Activities

• Organised a Summer Workshop on English Grammar for students of Class IX–XII (3–8 July 2017) from schools on the outskirts of the college.
• Provided extended service at Sarbaibondha High School, Jorhat, in collaboration with the North Jorhat Senior Citizens Association (16–17 March 2018).
• Celebrated Shakespeare Day on 23 April 2018, 2019 and 2022 to commemorate William Shakespeare.
• Extended a community outreach programme at Subarnaprobha Bordoloi Girls H.S. School, Na-ali, Dhekiajuli, for H.S. 1st and 2nd year students (18 Aug 2017 – 1 Jun 2018).
• Provided extension service at Jorhat Balya Bhavan (28–29 July 2018) on invitation of the North Jorhat Senior Citizens Association and Inspectors of Schools, Jorhat.
• Organised a grammar workshop for students of Class IX–XII at Charigaon Girls High School (8–9 July 2019).
• Published a departmental journal, “Maple” — Issue 1 (5 Sept 2018) and Issue 2 (5 Sept 2019).
• Maintains a departmental library of 200+ books, reference works, magazines and novels in English and Assamese.
• Signed an MoU with the Department of English, Borholla College (23 Sept 2019).
• Organised a Career Counselling Programme with Mr. Ranjit Kr. Mahanta, Retd. Officer (APWD), Assam Engineering Services (20 Dec 2021).
• Organised an Awareness Programme on Mob Lynching with Additional S.P.(H) Jorhat, Mr. Mrinmoy Goswami, APS (23 Dec 2021).
• Mr. Biswajit Neog has authored several books to help students pursuing B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. in English of Dibrugarh University.

Achievements

• Mr. Biswajit Neog received the Best Educationist Award for Talented Personalities in 2017, New Delhi.

  Pt. Prabar Rajmohan Nath's Memorial Lecture

  Dr Prafulla Kr. Nath, Professor, Gauhati University, delivered a lecture at the college auditorium; 99 participants attended.

• 17 Mar 2025

  Students' Workshop on Preparing & Presenting a Seminar Paper

  Dr. Diganta Kr. Phukan, Principal, Dr. N.B. College, was the resource person; 70 students participated.

• 26–27 Apr 2026

  National Workshop on IPR

  A two-day National Workshop organised by IQAC & the IPR Cell in collaboration with the Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat; 100 participants took part.
